OKLAHOMA CITY – Senate Democratic Leader Kay Floyd announced Wednesday her caucus has elected Sen. Julia Kirt to follow Floyd into that leadership role for the 60th Oklahoma Legislature. Sen. Michael Brooks was chosen to succeed Sen. Kevin Matthews as Democratic caucus chair. Due to term limits, the 59th Oklahoma Legislature will be the last for both Floyd and Matthews, who will continue to serve in their Senate leadership roles until they leave office in November of 2024.

OKLAHOMA CITY – The National Foundation for Women Legislators (NFWL) has chosen two Oklahoma Senate members to receive the organization’s Elected Women of Excellence Award. Sen. Carri Hicks, D-Oklahoma City, and Sen. Julia Kirt, D-Oklahoma City, were named by the non-partisan, non-profit organization as 2023 recipients.

OKLAHOMA CITY – Sen. Julia Kirt, a member of the Oversight Committee for the Legislative Office of Fiscal Transparency (LOFT), issued the following statement after the watchdog agency presented its review of the Office of Management and Enterprise Services (OMES). The agency was proposed in 2011 to streamline government functions, creating efficiencies and cost-savings by eliminating duplication of services and leveraging purchasing power.

OKLAHOMA CITY –The Senate Business and Commerce Committee held an interim study Monday looking at Oklahoma’s Quality Jobs Program and how the job-creation incentives could better serve Oklahomans and the economy. The program offers qualifying companies quarterly cash rebates equal to up to five percent of newly created taxable payroll for up to 10 years. The study was requested by Sen. Julia Kirt, D-Oklahoma City.

Sen. Julia Kirt released the following statement Wednesday after the Legislative Office of Fiscal Transparency (LOFT) released a report on the Commissioners of the Land Office (CLO), the authority responsible for maintaining lands in trust in order to create revenue that can be used by public schools and higher education.
